Islamic Azad University wins 2017 World Taekwondo Team Championships title
Iranian taekwondo practitioners have won the 21st edition of World Taekwondo Team Championships in Ivory Coast, following a narrow victory over an outfit from Russia.
According to Press TV, the Islamic Azad University outfit, which was representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the two-day-long sporting event in the Ivorian capital city of Abijan, beat the Russian side 36-34 on Wednesday to stand on the top of the table at the end of their campaign.
Iranian sportsmen had defeated a squad from South Korea 55-38 in the semi-finals in the march to the final clash.
The Islamic Azad University taekwondo team had Soroush Ahmadi, Hadi Tiran Valipour, Seyyed Hossein Ehsani, Mehdi Khodabakhshi, Saeed Rajabi and Erfan Nazemi in its array, and was under the tutelage of Seyyed Ne’mat Khalifah.
The 21st edition of World Taekwondo Team Championships opened on December 5, and wrapped up the following day.
