Zarif meets with Singapore’s President, FM
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who has traveled to Singapore for a ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), held talks with the president and foreign minister of the Southeast Asian country.
According to Tasnim News Agency, in the meeting with President Halimah Yacob held in Singapore City on Friday, Zarif hailed the growing relations between Iran and Singapore and expounded on the grounds for closer cooperation in diverse fields.
The two sides also exchanged views about regional and international issues as well as the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Earlier in the day, Zarif met with his Singaporean counterpart, Vivian Balakrishnan, discussing a range of issues, including ways to boost the bilateral relations between the two Asian countries in all areas.
On Thursday, the Iranian top diplomat had separate meetings with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and with his counterparts from Russia, Japan, Turkey, the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the ASEAN.
The ASEAN accepted Iran as a member of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) on Thursday.
ASEAN is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising ten Southeast Asian countries that promotes intergovernmental cooperation.
