  • Iran-Pakistan ties serve regional stability: Speaker Larijani

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani congratulated his new Pakistani counterpart on taking office, describing Tehran-Islamabad interaction as a contributing factor in regional calm and stability.

According to Tasnim News Agency, in a telephone conversation on Friday, Larijani congratulated Asad Qaiser on his election as speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan.

Hailing the growing ties between Iran and Pakistan, Larijani said constant consultations between the “two influential countries in the region and the Islamic world” would contribute to regional stability and tranquility.

He also urged efforts to tap into Iran and Pakistan’s economic and agricultural capabilities to fulfill the interests of the two nations.

For his part, the new Pakistani speaker voiced Islamabad’s support for any initiative promoting Muslim unity and ensuring peace in the region.

Qaiser also referred to the “age-old cultural and religious ties” between Pakistan and Iran as a solid basis for closer cooperation, particularly between the parliaments.

Pakistan's new parliament elected Asad Qaiser as the speaker of its lower house on Wednesday.

Qaiser is a member of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party, led by would-be prime minister Imran Khan.
