US President Donald Trump has accepted the resignation of the country’s UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Axios news site reported about the resignation on Tuesday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

She was one of the first members of President Donald Trump’s cabinet, confirmed four days after his inauguration.

Haley did not confirm the report to Reuters when asked about it during a visit to the White House on Tuesday, but according to Axios, she discussed her resignation with the president last week when she visited him at the White House.

Trump and Haley were scheduled to meet in the Oval Office at 10:30 a.m. (1430 GMT), according to White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders.

“This comes as surprise. Ambassador Haley has been a very strong and effective advocate for the US. She and SG have a had a very strong working relationship which has avoided what could have been a breakdown of the US/U.N. relationship," one senior diplomat told CNN.
