Today, we study the tradition of the Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny) in establishment of the ruling system.

Undoubtedly, one of the essential and vital needs of human community is the establishment of ruling system. In the light of establishment of ruling system; chaos is prevented; order is shaped; and personal, social, and international boundaries are set and implemented. Thus, the need to establish a ruling system is in line with prudence and wisdom. Meanwhile, heavenly religions put emphasis on the need to establish a ruling system, and on this basis an inseparable bond is formed between religion and politics. This is because all prophets began their movements in order to shape divine rule, while standing up against suppressive rulers. For instance, Moses stood up against Pharaoh, and Jesus stood up against Kaiser. Meanwhile, Prophet of Islam stood up firmly against the then Roman and Persian rulers, while also sending envoys to all of the rulers of his era, inviting them to convert to divine religion of Islam. The bond between religion and politics in the tradition of Prophet of Islam is such that no one can claim the Prophet was indifferent toward political affairs.

The powerful campaign of the Prophet of Islam against leading figures of Mecca; his participation in battlefields; his Jihad against the manifestations of polytheism; disbelief, and discord in Medina; fair distribution of wealth; negation of racial discrimination; and establishment of equality and unity, prove that in the Islamic view, there is an inseparable bond between religion and politics.

The prominent aspect of the political tradition of prophets and the Prophet of Islam is that establishment of a ruling system was not the Prophets’ ultimate goal, in contrast to suppressive politicians. Prophets’ only goal was to materialize monotheistic ideals and to establish a just and humane community. The First Infallible Successor to Prophet of Islam, Imam Ali (Peace be upon him), shaped one of the most glittering ruling systems throughout his short rule. Imam Ali noted: “Certainly, God Almighty righteously appointed Prophet Mohammad to put an end to slavery of His servitudes toward suppressive rulers; to guide them toward servitude of God; and to bring them under divine governance.”

In the polytheistic political systems, strenuous efforts are made to enslave human beings and to impose the said political systems’ goals and demands on humans. On this basis, whoever stages an uprising against their inhuman policies, is ruthlessly suppressed, and freedom-seeker are tortured in dungeons and/or sentenced to death. In short, such polytheistic ruling systems remove any obstacle against their suppressive rule and make every effort to maintain their interests.

Today, we are faced with the belligerent policies of the US and European leaders, who with the collaboration of the reactionary Arab regimes in the region, slaughter innocent and defenseless Islamic nations, in a futile bid to impose their domination on Islamic lands.

Meanwhile, the political identity and ruling system of the Prophet of Islam is completely different to that of Global Arrogance. The Prophet of Islam’s goal behind establishment of a ruling system was to implement divine instructions and to administer justice. Thus, the Prophet of Islam firmly stood against the Satanic and inhuman policies of the ruling disbelievers, to pave the way for the growth of Islam and liberation of mankind.

The fact of the matter is that based on Islamic monotheistic ideology, governance belongs to God. However, God has delegated the responsibility of materialization of divine rule to His chosen prophets.

Secondly, Prophets did not act like ambitious individuals who resort to anything illegitimate in order to be empowered. In fact, Prophets, upon manifesting their merits, wholeheartedly influenced people and were therefore empowered. For instance, the Prophet of Islam lived in Mecca for 40 years, completely winning the trust of people, while defending the downtrodden; thereby establishing a popular status. Following his divine appointment, the Prophet still stood by the disadvantaged strata and showed no tendency toward the leading, ambitious figures of Mecca.

These characteristic traits of the Prophet led to the warm welcome accorded by people of Medina to the Prophet of Islam upon his entry to that city.

Meanwhile, Prophets were not intent on accumulation of wealth; suppression of people; and any ambitious goals. In fact, in contrast to the approach of power-thirsty politicians, Prophets aimed to establish monotheistic ruling systems, campaign against class gaps, and administer social justice. The glittering era of rule of Prophet of Islam in Medina displays the divine and humane policies of Prophet Mohammad.
