Today, we study the necessity of steadfastness and resistance against injustice and arrogance; protection of the downtrodden and the oppressed; and their liberation from the yoke of suppressive rulers, in accordance to the political tradition of the Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny).

The political tradition of Prophet Mohammad is based on the monotheistic rule, which is founded on four major principles, namely liberation of servitudes from the yoke of anti-monotheistic ruling systems; liberation of human beings from accords with suppressive rulers; refusal to comply with Satanic ruling systems; and negation of the oppressive regimes.

Based on this viewpoint, the confrontation between monotheistic ruling systems and suppressive regimes takes place for the sake of liberation of the oppressed and the downtrodden. In other words, in accordance to political tradition of the Prophet of Islam, whatever enslaves mankind should no longer burden the oppressed nations across the world. Upon the materialization of these principles, the human world is honored, and attains independence and freedom; with human beings taking their destiny into their own hands.

Holy Quran depicts this mission of the Prophet of Islam.

The 157th ayah of Surat al-A’raf notes: “He relieves them of their burdens and the shackles that were upon them…”

This viewpoint and inclination is rooted in pure belief in monotheism; which also considers the ouster of oppressors and rule of the downtrodden as the foundation of divine providence.

The 5th ayah of Surat Al-Qasas notes: “And We desired to show favor to those who were abased in the land, and to make them imams, and to make them the heirs, and to establish them in the land…”

In the Quranic culture and political literature, downtrodden refers to the individuals or nations; that have been denied the power to make plans and have been left underdeveloped by the arrogant powers, who aim to impose their domination via the pillage of huge resources of nations, and enforcement of opportunistic policies.

The political tradition of the Prophet of Islam, which has been inspired by Holy Quran, is completely against such a colonial and anti-human policy. Thus, all Muslims are duty-bound to rescue and liberate the downtrodden. Holy Quran strongly condemns any negligence of this major responsibility and has challenged any muted reaction to this topic of importance.

The 75th ayah of Surat al-Nisa notes: “Why should you not fight in the way of Allah and the abased men, women, and children, who say, ‘Our Lord, bring us out of this town whose people are wrongdoers, and appoint for us a guardian from You, and appoint for us a helper from You’?

The other important point in this ayah is that Islam doesn’t consider any boundaries in defending the oppressed nations and believes that every committed individual shoulders the responsibility to protect the oppressed, irrespective of his ideological, racial, national, and geographical features.

Based on these teachings, the divine religion of Islam stands by the oppressed, anywhere in the world. On this basis, the Founder of Islamic Republic of Iran, late Imam Khomeini (May his soul rest in peace),named the last Friday of the Holy Month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day, urging all Muslims and freedom-seekers round the world to campaign for liberation of Q      uds from the yoke of usurper Israeli regime. In accordance to this policy, the sacred Islamic establishment, under the astute leadership of the Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, puts emphasis on defending the oppressed nations of Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Bahrain, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, promoting this policy in the face of propaganda campaigns staged by the Global Arrogance.

This is in fact the political tradition of Prophet Mohammad, who always struggled to liberate world nations in the face of the then suppressive powers. Meanwhile, the so-called Islamic states in the region are hand in gloves with the Global Arrogance and are acting against the oppressed governments and nations. This policy and approach is in total contrast to Quranic teachings.

The 60th ayah of Surat al-Nisa notes: “Have you not regarded those who claim that they believe in what has been sent down to you, and what was sent down before you? They desire to seek the judgment of the Rebel, though they were commanded to defy it, and Satan desires to lead them astray into far error.”

Thus, any individual, group, and/or government which would be willing to give in to suppressive regimes, has been entrapped by Satan and has undoubtedly derailed from the righteous divine path. Submission to arrogant regimes doesn’t match the monotheistic spirit of divine religion of Islam and violates the political tradition of Prophet Mohammad.

The political tradition of Prophet Mohammad has been to defend the oppressed and the downtrodden, and to liberate them from arrogant powers. This policy is fully against the views and interests of Global Arrogance. The Prophet of Islam aimed for empowerment of the oppressed and the downtrodden. In order to materialize this goal, we should stand by the oppressed anywhere in the world, and should stand firm against suppressive rulers, while remaining fearless in the face of threats.

We should also truly believe in God’s assistance and attainment of victory. The world’s downtrodden should have faith in God’s vow that the oppressed will emerge victorious. This goal will fully materialize upon the reappearance of the 12th Infallible Imam of the Prophet of Islam’s Household, Imam Mahdi (May God hasten his reappearance).
