Welcome to the 9th episode of our interesting 10-part series titled “Iranian Lady – Aspirations and Advancement”, which we are presenting you every day on the occasion of the “Ten Days of Beneficence” that is celebrated in Islamic Iran every year to mark the first ten days of the month of Zil-Qa’dah, beginning with the birth anniversary of our Blessed Lady of Qom, Hazrat Fatema Ma’souma (peace upon her) and ending with the auspicious birthday of her illustrious elder brother, Imam Reza (AS).

For your information the birthday of this virtuous lady is celebrated in Iran as “Daughter’s Day” to inspire Iranian women to greater heights.

The Holy Qur’an is constitution of mankind for success in life and salvation in afterlife. It calls upon us to refrain from evil acts and to do good deeds. Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny) practically taught us to adhere to the commandments of God in all spheres of life when he established the first ever Islamic state in Medina. His divinely-designated successor, Imam Ali ibn Abi Taleb (AS), gave a brilliant display of social justice during his four-and-a-half year rule of the ideal Islamic government.

After long centuries, with the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, under the leadership of the Sage of the Age, Imam Khomeini (RA), once again genuine Mohammadan Islam was revived, and the world saw the spread of Islamic teachings in their true sense and promotion of the purely Qur’anic concepts that enables both men and women, the young and old, to explore the wonders of the heavenly scripture by reciting it with proper perspective and memorizing its ayahs.

“Hannaneh Khalafi "is a young teenaged reciter and memorizer of the Qur’an who ranked first in the 37th national Qur’anic contest. This dedicated girl in a recent meeting with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, showed her ability that so impressed the Leader that he ordered that her recitation of the entire Qur’an to be recorded and distributed. Later her participation in the holy Qur’an international memorization competition in the UAE was praised by everyone and she was ranked tenth in the contest.

Hannaneh is the youngest daughter of a 6-member family, each of whom is blessed with the teachings of the holy Qur’an and enjoys specific talents in the various fields of Qur’anic studies.

She is able to accurately state the page number and the ayah of the heavenly scripture. She can read the ayahs of each page from top to bottom, can mention the first ayah on each page of the holy Qur’an from the beginning to the end, recite at random when asked about a particular ayah of any surah by mentioning its page number, and say whether the ayahs were revealed in Mecca or Medina.

Hannaneh who has participated in several international Qur’an competitions; twice in Lebanon, twice in Syria, four times in Iraq, once each in Turkey, UAE, Russia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Of her meeting with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, she said: “I promised the Beloved Leader to memorize the translation of the ayahs as well, and now I am able to recite from memory the meanings of the 22nd part of the holy Qur’an. Insha Allah (God Willing), in the near future, I will be reciting from memory the meaning of 30th or last part of the heavenly scripture.

Hannaneh is studying medicine, but this has not stopped her progress in further exploring the Qur’anic sciences. She has mastered Sawt and Tajwid from leading instructors such as Bahr ul-Oloum and Sabz Ali, and recites in the style of the famous Egyptian reciter, Master Menshavi. When we asked her to recite an ayah from the Qur’an to young girls, she recited ayahs pertaining to respect for parents and the freedom of the Hejab.

Without the least doubt, teenaged Hannaneh is the perfect model for all young Iranian girls aspiring to become reciters and memorizers of the holy Qur’an.
