Mr Buhari release Sheikh Zakzaky, if you really back the Palestinian cause
It is an irony of the Muslim world today that leaders of Muslim countries instead of respecting the rights of their citizens, imprison them, torture them, and kill them, under orders of Global Arrogance, the Zionist entity, and the hypocrites amongst the Muslim rulers who are afraid of Islamic unity.
A notable case in this regard is the continued imprisonment of Nigeria’s prominent Islamic leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky for the past two years for his opposition to the US, Israel and the seditious Saudi regime. Now we have a viewpoint that appeared in Iran’s English language daily Kayhan International titled: “Mr Buhari release Sheikh Zakzaky, if you really back the Palestinian cause”.
Kayhan International said: Two years have passed and still the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, despite the order of the Federal Court, shows no indications of releasing Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, the Leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).
Huge rallies were held in several cities of Nigeria on December 12, the day of the unexplained detention of the venerable Sheikh and scores of his followers, who continue to languish in prisons, without proper medical aid, since the brutal attack of the Nigerian army in 2015 in Zaria on the peaceful gathering of Shi’a Muslims making preparations for celebrations of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny).
Unfortunately, Buhari, rather than listening to the grievances of over ten million Nigerian Shi’a Muslims as well as many more citizens of other faith, has chosen to blindly follow the dictates of Saudi Arabia and the spurious entity, Israel.
The two cultists, that is, the Wahhabis and the Zionists, fear the loosening of their tentacles on Nigeria, if the IMN Leader, who is a strong Nigerian Islamic nationalist, opposed to the US-backed regimes in Riyadh and Tel Aviv, is released.
His only fault is that he was advocating the real political, economic, and cultural independence of his homeland – an idea that was anathema to not only Saudi Arabia and Israel but to the US as well, since the Americans are falsely propagandizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran is planning to takeover Nigeria.
This is an absurd idea, said Kayhan International, especially in view of Tehran’s commitment to the holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet, for supporting the aspirations of Muslims worldwide, as is evident by its selfless support to the governments and peoples of Syria and Iraq in the fight against terrorists created by Saudi Arabia and backed by the US and Israel.
The Islamic Republic as a staunch opponent of terrorism, anywhere in the world, is ready to help Nigeria in the fight against the West African Takfiri terrorist outfit, Boko Haram.
If President Buhari summons the courage to seriously confront Boko Haram terrorists, it can find a very firm friend in Iran, and moreover, tens of millions of Nigerian people, including Christians and animists, would surely welcome this offer from Tehran.
In view of these undeniable facts, it is advisable for the Nigerian government to heed the Federal Court’s pending order and take the necessary steps for releasing Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and scores of his followers who have committed no crime against the state or religion.
As the latest IMN rally held in Nigeria a few days ago made it clear: the administration should not think it is above the law.
Kayhan International pointed out: It is almost a year since Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had ordered the unconditional release of the IMN Leader and his wife, Zeenatu, within 45 days.
The court holds the view that the continued detention of the Sheikh Zakzaky, without trial, amounted to a gross violation of the constitutionally guaranteed rights of Nigerian citizens, and the government is required to pay 50 million in Nigerian currency for the damage inflicted.
It should also be recalled that the Federal Court had dismissed the government’s position that Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife are under “protective custody.”
The ball is now in the court of President Buhari, who was in Istanbul earlier this month for the extraordinary summit of member states of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) on the issue of Islam’s first qibla, Bayt al-Moqaddas, which the quixotic US president, Donald Trump, wrongly called capital of Israel.
If Buhari is such an ardent supporter of the struggle of the Palestinian people and the sanctity of al-Aqsa Mosque, what prevents him from respecting the right to freedom of Sheikh Zakzaky and restoration of the Hussainiyah Baqiatollah that was so criminally destroyed by the Nigerian army?
Therefore, it is time for him to reflect on realities, and in true Islamic spirit as a mark of respect for the feelings of his countrymen, should set free the Sheikh whose health is deteriorating, and who every year was a prominent figure at the annual World Qods Day rallies.
