  • Leader urges Iranians to help rein in coronavirus by implementing all health directives

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has called on all Iranians to help boost the country’s battle to stem a growing coronavirus epidemic by paying close heed to the directives and guidelines issued by heath officials.

According to Press TV, Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks on Tuesday after he planted saplings to mark Iran’s national Arbor Day and Natural Resources Week.

He once again thanked doctors, nurses and the country’s entire medical personnel for their invaluable work, saying they are “engaged in jihad on the path of God.

The Leader also expressed his gratitude to the medics’ families who are exercising patience while their loved ones are making round-the-clock efforts to rein in the disease.

Ayatollah Khamenei laid emphasis on the instructions and guidelines issued by the country’s health authorities aimed at containing the coronavirus outbreak.

“These orders should not at all be violated as God has obliged us to take responsibility regarding our own health and that of others; therefore, anything that contributes to the society’s health and helps prevent the spread of the disease is a virtue and, [on the contrary], whatever facilitates its spread is a sin.”

The Leader further advised all government apparatuses to cooperate with the Health Ministry, which is at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus, saying, “The Armed Forces and institutions affiliated with the Leader’s Office are required to do so as well.”

Ayatollah Khamenei said “this disaster is, of course, not that great” and the country has already suffered greater ones, describing the epidemic as “temporary and not extraordinary.”

“Of course, I don’t mean to underestimate the issue, but we should not also exaggerate it too much. This issue will not last in the country for a long time and will pass, but the experience it brings as well as the efforts by the people and institutions resembles a public exercise that could live on as an achievement.”

Ayatollah Khamenei also lauded Iranian officials’ “transparency and honesty” in dealing with the coronavirus outbreak and informing people of relevant news, whereas “some other countries, where this disease is more severe and more widespread, make cover-ups.”.
