AFC Champions League: Persepolis 1-0 Al-Taawoun
Over football news, Iran’s Persepolis have earned a valuable victory in the 2020 AFC Champions League after edging Saudi club Al-Taawoun in Group C match.
Both sides continued to battle in the middle of the pitch in the 1st half, but Al-Taawoun chances denied by Persepolis keeper Hamed Lak who produced stunning back-to-back saves before the break.
Persepolis who were chasing their first win in the 2020 edition, finally broke the deadlock with 8 minutes remaining when Shoja Khalilzadeh, who was at the right place at the right time to score the winner with a left-footed finish.
With the victory, Persepolis climbed above Sharjah into 2nd place with 4 points, just 2 behind the group leaders at the halfway point.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Sepahan suffered a 2-nil loss against Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia on Match-day 3 of Group D on Tuesday. Abderrazak Hamdallah scored a brace for Al-Nassr as they replaced Qatari club Al-Sadd at the top of Group D on 7 points, while Sepahan remained in 3rd place, two points off a qualification spot, ahead of Match-day Four’s reverse fixture on Friday.
