  • UK strain coming from Iraq main cause of 4th coronavirus wave in Iran: Rouhani

President Hassan Rouhani blamed the UK variant of the coronavirus spreading from Iraq for a new wave of the pandemic that has increased fatality rates in Iran.

According to Tasnim news agency, speaking at a Saturday session of the Coronavirus Fight National Headquarters, Rouhani said the main cause of the fourth wave of pandemic in Iran has been the UK variant of the virus that has spread from Iraq through the border Provinces of Khuzestan and Ilam in western Iran.

The president also blamed the new coronavirus wave on the gatherings, crowds of people and travels during the New Iranian Year’s holidays without compliance with the health protocols, as well as the celebrations and wedding ceremonies in violation of the restrictions.

He called for legal action against the violators of health regulations, warning against the breach of quarantine by the carriers of infection.
