Iranian wrestlers Mohammad Reza Geraei and Amirhossein Zare have been named 'Breakthrough Performance of the year award winner' by United World Wrestling.

According to Press TV, Geraei came into 2021 without a world or Olympic medal under his belt, but the 25-year-old, known as the Ice Man, beat the odds to bag a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, adding it to his maiden World Championships gold medal in the Greco-Roman 67KG category.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old freestylist Zare had a colossal year. He collected an Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo, before upsetting 3-time world Champion Geno Petriashvili and Olympic gold medalist Taha Akgul to gain heavy-weight supremacy at the Oslo World Championships.
