Saudi Shia Muslims mark Day of Ashura, in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH) the Shia Muslims' third Imam, and the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny) in the 7th century.

Ashura, the 10th day of the lunar month of Muharram, falls on Tuesday in Iran this year.

The Muharram ceremonies symbolize the eternal and unwavering stance of truth against falsehood and humanity’s struggle against injustice, tyranny and oppression, the cause for which Imam Hussein (PBUH) was martyred.
