Messi claims record sixth Ballon d'Or
Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d'Or award for the world's best player for a record 6th time.
Messi, who had claimed the best FIFA men’s award back in September, beat Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dyke to take the honors.
The triumph saw the Argentinean superstar move 1 clear of 3rd-placed Cristiano Ronaldo who has won the prestigious trophy 5 times.
Meanwhile Juventus Defender Mattieus De Likht won the Copa Trophy for the best Under-21 male player in the world.
And Liverpool’s Alisson Becker received the new Yashin Trophy for the best male goalkeeper of the year.
Megan Rapinoe won the women's Ballon d'Or award after guiding team USA to a record-extending 4th World Cup title in France this year.
