In the Path of the Imam (36)
Today, we elaborate upon the views and conduct of the Father of Islamic Revolution, late Imam Khomeini (God's mercy upon him) in relation to daily prayers.
Last week, we spoke of the economic, social, and political views of the Founder of Islamic Republic of Iran, late Imam Khomeini (God's mercy upon him), and discussed late Imam's thoughts about Islamic ruling system. Given the religious and mystical characteristic of late Imam, we intend to make you familiar with the views and conduct of late Imam, as a jurisprudent, a major religious scholar, a Shia Source of Emulation, a unique mystic and wayfarer, and a renowned philosopher. In order to speak of the religious rituals and prayers based on late Imam's standpoint, we have chosen the topic of daily prayers, given that the sacred religion of Islam attaches significant importance to observance of daily prayers, and Holy Quran has on several occasions put emphasis on this important task and duty. Also, based on valid hadiths, observance of daily prayers has been considered as the pillar of divine religion of Islam.
Late Imam considers observance of daily prayers to be a spiritual journey and a manifestation of monotheism. Late Imam pointed out that observance of daily prayers resembles a divine journey if the innate truth and reality of prayers is understood and perceived.
Late Imam considered the spiritual elevation of the Infallible Imams of the Prophet of Islam's Household, and divine figures throughout the observance of daily prayers due to fear of God as a proof of the innate truth of prayers.
Late Imam's observance of daily prayers is a practical example of the views of the Father of Islamic Revolution in this regard. Scientists and mystics have all pointed out the piety and purity of the Father of Islamic Revolution, late Imam Khomeini (God's mercy upon him). For instance, the Shia Source of Emulation, Grand Ayatollah Araki reminds that he has never seen anyone as selfless and pious as late Imam Khomeini.
Late Imam always prioritized daily prayers. In addition to prioritization of observance of daily prayers, Imam Khomeini fully focused on daily prayers while fulfilling this task, such that he did not pay any attention to his surroundings.
Late Imam's son, Haaj Seyed Ahmad Khomeini notes when the former Iranian dictator fled the country, we were in France. The French police had cordoned off all streets leading to late Imam's place of residence, while numerous reporters had gathered over there for the news coverage of the most important event of that year, and to convey the standpoints of late Imam to the international community. Late Imam addressed the reporters, expressing his views for a few minutes, while all of a sudden realizing that it was time for observance of noon prayers. In order to do so, Late Imam left the reporters and journalists, before the very eyes of millions of TV viewers around the world, prioritizing and observing his daily noon prayers.
Elsewhere, one of the grandchildren of late Imam, Ms. Atefeh Eshraaqi notes that throughout the early months of the Iraqi imposed war, we suddenly heard a loud noise. We thought that a bomb had exploded. We stormed into late Imam's room. However, we found late Imam observing his daily prayers at the room's balcony and worshipping God, paying no attention to his surroundings and not even realizing that we had rushed into his room.
Late Imam was also highly committed to observance of recommended ritual prayers, and according to his associates, he observed recommended night prayers for fifty years.
